Every Tuesday we think some thinks and round up some top tips.
I love all things Marketoonist. Tom Fishbourne has this extraordinary knack for turning frustrations into light-hearted humour. But he also cuts through. Holds up the mirror. Shows us our truth as marketing professionals.
This cartoon about innovation really hit home. How often have we wanted to do something ground-breaking, only to be reined back in by someone (often ourselves)? Well that someone has a name: fear of failure.
I know this fear all too well. Starting up Perq Studio firmly catapulted me aboard the scariest white-knuckle ride I know. Suddenly, there was no boss to hide behind. No case studies to sell. No team to demonstrate scale and capability. I had to persuade future clients to invest in me and my vision for doing agency differently.
So how did I do it? How did I prioritise my thirst for innovation over my fear of failure?
1. Commit to your vision – If you have a core belief that powers you, then trust me, nothing will get in your way. I started Perq Studio on a mission to ‘do agency differently’. Collaborative. Strategic. Agile. Creative. Even when times got tough – and believe me they do – this powerful drive got me out of bed each morning.
2. Redefine failure – You will make mistakes. You’re a human being! But this is not failure. Mistakes help us learn. I feel so lucky to have observed my daughter grow into the six year old she is today. It helped me remember what it is to be human. It’s about trial and error. About evaluation. Reassessment. Redirection. It’s about embracing our mistakes, learning and moving on in the right direction.
3. Stay in your lane – Forget about finding others who have done what you have done. Comparison is the thief of joy. So hone your focus. Surround yourself with people who share your same passion, energy and positivity. You can learn from others, but remember, true innovation forges its own path.
From strategy to copy, animation to design, we’ve got the creative firepower and solid strategy to deliver the best marketing you’ve ever had. So, if you’re looking to turn innovation into opportunity, get in touch.
